Neemsamen – Azadirachta indica

Der Neembaum (Azadirachta indica) produziert in seinen Samen und anderen Pflanzenteilen ein aus vielen verschiedenen Wirkstoffen zusammengesetztes Öl (Neemöl), dass im biologischen Pflanzenschutz Verwendung gegen viele schädliche Insekten findet. Der wichtigste Insektizide Wirkstoff in Neempräparaten ist das Azadirachtin. Dieser Wirkstoff wird über Pflanzenwurzeln und Blätter aufgenommen und verteilt sich in der Pflanze. Saugende Insekten die den Pflanzensaft aufnehmen werden in ihrer Larvalentwickung und Häutung so beeinträchtigt dass sie meist bald absterben. Nützlinge die keine Pflanzensäfte saugen werden nicht beeinträchtigt.

Dieser Schadschmetterling wurde aus Asien nach Deutschland eingeschleppt und breitet weiter aus. Erstmals wurde der Buchsbaumzünsler im Jahr 2006 in Deutschland festgestellt. Der Schmetterling bzw. seine Larven sind sehr stark an den Buchs gebunden und wurden vermutlich auch über Buchsimporte (Buxus sp.) eingeschleppt.
